Book Nooks
|
The Book Nooks featured are created by students in Palo Alto High School's Child Development Pathway. Each one is built around a carefully chosen children's picture book and pairs an original summary with a set of activities designed to bring the story to life, typically including while-reading prompts, play-based extensions, and a Building Literacy at Home section for families. The specific components have evolved over the years as the project has grown.

Depending on the class and focus, some Book Nooks center on social-emotional learning, while others explore anti-bias themes around identity, diversity, justice, and activism. In every case, students designed these as practical, ready-to-use resources for early childhood educators and parents, extending a single picture book into a full literacy experience that engages children during the read-aloud, deepens learning through play, and supports families in continuing the conversation at home.
